Have You Been a Victim of Road Rage? We Can Help

Driving can be a dangerous activity for anyone. The road becomes even more dangerous when people lose their tempers for even the slightest of reasons. Short tempers and little patience for so-called “bad drivers” can lead to some serious cases of road rage. Unfortunately, Georgia has seen plenty of road rage cases over the past several years.

The most recently publicized case of road rage took place on March 10th of this year.  Police investigators believe the shooting was the result of a road rage dispute. Two men stopped at an intersection on a Georgia highway where they exchanged words. Eventually, one of the drivers fired shots at the other. Both drivers ended up shooting at each other and before it was over, Zachery Everett, of Rex, was dead.

Clayton County police say that the man who died in the incident was the instigator in the shooting, so no charges will be filed against the other party, who was acting in self-defense.

What is Road Rage and What can You do to Protect Yourself?

Road rage refers to frustration that is manifested in actions including obscene gestures, tailgating slow drivers, and others that could result in an accident. While only you can keep yourself from being an aggressive driver, there are things that you can do to protect yourself from being the victim of road rage.

  • Get out of the way of erratic drivers and do not attempt to challenge them.
  • Do not stay in the left lane when other drivers are trying to pass.
  • Stay calm and report the aggressive driver to authorities.
  • Give the aggressive driver the benefit of the doubt.

Another tragedy associated with road rage accidents is that, often, the person injured was not the object of the driver’s rage. Instead they simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is important to stay aware of your surroundings.

What can We do About Road Rage Accidents?

A person who is charged with aggressive driving in Georgia faces one of the most serious traffic violations that Georgia has. That driver faces a misdemeanor punishable by several penalties. These drivers face incarceration, fines up to $5,000, and points on their motor vehicle reports. Depending on previous convictions, the penalties can increase and even result in the suspension of the person’s driver’s license. If the aggressive driving results in a fatality, the person will be financially responsible for the harm.

For the victim of an aggressive driver, there are additional options that an experienced attorney can help you with. If you or a loved one is injured because of an aggressive driver, you may be eligible for compensation for your losses and suffering. The attorneys at Tyler Moore Law can help you understand your rights when you have been the victim of an unfortunate accident.

I realized the true function of a lawyer was to unite parties riven asunder. The lesson was so indelibly burnt into me that a large part of my time during the twenty years of my practice as a lawyer was occupied in bringing about private compromises of hundreds of cases. I lost nothing thereby — not even money, certainly not my soul.
